What an in-game trade really gives

Some characters in the game will swap a Pokémon for yours. The one they hand back arrives at the level of the one you gave, not at a level of its own: the same trade gives a level 5 or a level 60 depending on what you fed it. Its four hidden values, the DVs that decide its stats, are only fixed in the second generation. The first rolls them, trade by trade.
